Why the IV Pole?

Kevin’s’ IV Pole is symbolic of one’s personal journey to struggle, fight and beat cancer.  Kevin’s personal experience with the IV pole was not one of friendship or comfort, but one of necessary sickness and pain.

As is with many chemo patients, Kevin would get deathly sick and struggle through the sickness until the end of treatment.  Kevin’s feeling of freedom from the chemo and hopefully from the cancer happened when he was unattached from that IV pole. The symbolism of carrying, pushing, and struggling with that IV pole on this walk is for all cancer patients.

As a final act to this journey Kevin will leave his IV pole in Boston as a symbol of being free from not only the IV pole, but chemotherapy treatments and ultimately cancer.

Kevin’s mission is to carry the burden via that IV pole across the country for every child that is effected with cancer to the finish line in Boston and leave that pole behind. Completing the journey, finishing chemo, and believing in their cure.
